Gaudí's City
It seems like Gaudi’s influence can be seen on every corner of Barcelona.
Antoni Gaudi was born in Reus, the second-largest city of the region of Catalonia. He worked with his father who taught him carpentry, glassmaking and locksmithing. In school, Gaudi excelled in architecture and later worked as an apprentice. He moved to Barcelona where he built several buildings. He spent 40 years building La Sagrada Familia. |
La Sagrada Familia
One of the sights that needs to be visited while in Barcelona is the basilica of La Sagrada Familia. Construction began in 1882 but it wasn't completed until 2010. The massive stone structure depicts the history of Christian life from the birth of Jesus and the Nazareth family to the crucifixion.
Inside La Sagrada Familia
Gaudi's strong style can be seen inside the basilica as well. The majestic columns decorated with flower-like structures and bright colors depict the evangelists.
Parque Güell
Eusebi Güell, a prominent architect of Barcelona, saw the work of Gaudi in Paris. Impressed by the young architect's talent and style of work, Güell assigned the design of the park to Gaudi. The park is located on Carmel Hill in Barcelona. We walked up the hill to this public park and marveled at the columns and designs of Gaudi.
