PONT DU GARDThis amazing aqueduct was constructed in the 1st century A.D. Archeological excavations have shown that the planning was so precise that many of the stones were numbered. The stones were chiseled with precision and are held together with keystones, not mortar.
It is the tallest surviving Roman aqueduct and is extremely well preserved. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. |
